Overview
Hello, my website is intended to shine light on the endangerment of red pandas. According to Heath & Platnick (2008) on Animal Diversity Web, "Red pandas are protected and listed in Appendix II of the Convention on the International Trade in Threatened and Endangered Species, and were declared endangered in March 1988." They have been endangered for quite some while but attempts to prevent their endangerment have not been sufficient. Red Pandas are mammals that make their home in temperate forests. They have bear- like physique with thick reddish fur (WorldWildlife [WWF]). Their average size is that of a house cat, however with their bushy tails can add up to an additional 18 inches to them. Red pandas live most of their lives in trees and are able to maneuver themselves skillfully because of their extended wrist bone that almost functions similarly to a thumb (NationalGeographic). Their population is slowly dwindling due to deforestation caused by humans amongst other reasons as well. For example, another contributor is their slow reproductive rate; they have small litters and have a long gestation period (Redpandanetwork). Nevertheless, deforestation is mainly causing them to seek new habitats in where they may encounter new obstacles to live peacefully. Red pandas provide no threat to people, but they continue to find themselves at the brink of becoming extinct. Therefore, people must be more willing to help save the red panda population.
