People and organizations can help the red pandas by first and furthermore becoming aware of the problem and taking action. The major contributor to the endangerment of the red panda is deforestation. People can raise awareness of the damage deforestation is doing and even though it is most times justified because it is done for the good of the people deforestation is preventing red pandas from living peacefully in trees and forests. The clearing out of forests which provide us with more luxuries can be minimized and should be because red pandas do not present any threat to us. The most they do in case of feeling attacked is climb up trees or attack with their semi-retracable claws (Heath & Platnick, 2008). Another way to help like how some zoos have contributed is by participating in management programs which means they take in red pandas and ensure they are cared for and have a higher possibility of survival (Redpandanetwork). The North America management program is called Red Panda Species Survival Program (SSP). They help determine which animals should be mated, help develop long term research on these endangered animals, and create strategies to prevent their extinction (Redpandanetwork). Also, people can make proposals to members of Congress to prevent the cutting down of funding for endangered species. Which can increase their chance of surviving and continuing to survive (WWF). Red pandas promote ecotourism, which means tourism to exotic places that may be threaten and further observe wildlife; and provide research and education to people who become enthralled with their past and want to contribute so that red pandas may continue to exist (Heath & Platnick, 2008).
